Hamburg 873 (D)

dated  1.3.37

The Faroese shipping company Skipafelagið Føroya, based in the capital Thorshavn, maintained a regular shipping service to Hamburg in the 1930s, partly with its own ships and partly with chartered ships. The town of Leith near Edinburgh, the destination of the letter, was also one of the foreign harbours that were called at regularly.

Cover from Caracas to Nuremberg with transport note for the motor ship HEINZ HORN.
When mailed in Hamburg, the previously uncancelled franking of the mail from Venezuela was cancelled with the Hamburg Paquebot cancel “Von der / Schiffspost” and the day cancel of the Hamburg 14 port post office was cancelled on 8.5.1937. A very nice demand cover.
