The card was apparently written by a French fisherman working in Icelandic waters and delivered to the post office in Reykjavik on 23 March 1909. In West Hartlepool, on AP 6 09, the card received the previously unknown red SHIP LETTER cancellation, which measures 33 x 3.5 mm. The somewhat faintly applied arrival cancellation from Le Havre is dated 8-4 09.
